Cosa Nostra, Catholicism, and Death

In Memory of Santi and Muni

News just reach me, in the last few days, of the passing of a certain someone. I do expressed my condonlences to the friends and family of their recent bereavement. Despite the obviously sad news, I hope the Scion of the family in question continues the conservative approach of his much loved one and pulls the family together.

Death is something that is now appearing all too common these days. I personally felt touched when one evening, visiting an Old Friend of a Friend sometime ago, he asked me:

"S_____, I haven't got much time left; Tell G_______ to come and visit. I am too ill to leave this place"

My last words were always promising; And in another distant place, standing over my Grandfather's deathbed, I could see the Old Man listlessly trying to speak, but words failed him. He died peacefully in his sleep, at the ripe age of 93, after seeing off the Civil War, two Concentration Camps, a few Economic Recessions and the end of a Dictatorship.

Human nature is fickle, filled with jealousies, rivalries, personal dislikes and all the pitfalls that could befall those unfortunate enough to experience it. For them, I wish all the best. If ever I had to moralise over these demerits, is that God gave us all, free will.

Sometimes, Life is too short to waste it on self destructive emotions.
